Azide inhibits cytochrome oxidase by binding irreversibly to the heme cofactor in a process similar to the action of carbon monoxide. Sodium azide particularly affects organs that undergo high rates of respiration, such as the heart and the brain.
It produces extrapyramidal symptoms with necrosis of the cerebral cortex, cerebellum, and basal ganglia. Toxicity may also include hypotension, blindness and hepaticnecrosis. Sodium azide increases cyclic GMP levels in brain and liver by activation of guanylate cyclase..

Because of its basicity, DMAP is a useful nucleophilic catalyst for a variety of reactions such as esterifications with anhydrides, the Baylis-Hillman reaction, hydrosilylations, tritylation, the Steglich rearrangement, Staudinger synthesis of β-lactams and many more. Chiral DMAP analogues are used in kinetic resolution experiments of mainly secondary alcohols and Evans auxiliary type amides.
DMAP has a relatively high toxicity and is particularly dangerous because of its ability to be absorbed through the skin. It is also corrosive.

or2-aminoethanesulfonic acid, is anorganic compoundthat is widely distributed in animal tissues.[1]It is a major constituent ofbileand can be found in thelarge intestine, and accounts for up to 0.1% of total human body weight. Taurine has many fundamental biological roles, such as conjugation ofbile acids, antioxidation, osmoregulation, membrane stabilization, and modulation ofcalcium signaling. It is essential forcardiovascularfunction, and development and function ofskeletal muscle, theretina, and thecentral nervous system. Taurine is unusual among biological molecules in being asulfonic acid, while the vast majority of biologically occurring acids contain the more weakly acidiccarboxyl group. While taurine is sometimes called an amino acid, and indeed is anacidcontaining anaminogroup, it is not anamino acidin the usual biochemical meaning of the term, which refers to compounds containing both anaminoand acarboxylgroup.
Taurine is named after theLatintaurus(acognateof theGreek) which meansbullorox, as it was first isolated from ox bile in 1827 by German scientistsFriedrich TiedemannandLeopold Gmelin.Taurine is involved in a number of crucial physiological processes. However, its role in these processes is not clearly understood and the influence of high taurine doses on these processes is uncertain. A substantial increase in the plasma concentration of growth hormone was reported in some epileptic patients during taurine tolerance testing (oral dose of 50 mg per kg body mass per day), suggesting a potential to stimulate the hypothalamus and to modify neuroendocrine function.[60] A 1966 study found an indication that taurine (2 g/day) has some function in the maintenance and possibly in the induction of psoriasis.

Adenine /dnn/ (A, Ade) is a nucleobase (a purine derivative). Its derivatives have a variety of roles in biochemistry including cellular respiration, in the form of both the energy-rich adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and the cofactors nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) and flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD). It also has functions in protein synthesis and as a chemical component of DNA and RNA.[2] The shape of adenine is complementary to either thymine in DNA or uracil in RNA.
The image on the right shows pure adenine, as an independent molecule. When connected into DNA, a covalent bond is formed between deoxyribose sugar and the bottom left nitrogen, so removing the hydrogen. The remaining structure is called an adenine residue, as part of a larger molecule. Adenosine is adenine reacted with ribose as used in RNA and ATP; deoxyadenosine, adenine attached to deoxyribose, as is used to form DNA.Adenine forms several tautomers, compounds that can be rapidly interconverted and are often considered equivalent. However, in isolated conditions, i.e. in an inert gas matrix and in the gas phase, mainly the 9H-adenine tautomer is found

Citronellal is a major isolate in distilled oils from the plants Cymbopogon,[2] lemon-scented gum, and lemon-scented teatree. The (-)-(S)-enantiomer of citronellal makes up up to 80% of the leaf oil from kaffir lime leaves and is the compound responsible for its characteristic aroma.
Citronellal has insect repellent properties, and research shows high repellent effectiveness against mosquitoes.[3] Research shows that citronellal has strong antifungal qualities..

Galactitol is produced from galactose in a reaction catalyzed by aldose reductase. Galactose itself comes from the metabolism of the disaccharide lactose into glucose and galactose.
The other common galactose metabolism defect is a defect in galactose-1-phosphate uridylyltransferase, an autosomal recessive disorder, which also causes a buildup of galactitol as a result of increased concentrations of galactose-1-phosphate and galactose. The toxicity associated with galactose-1-phosphate uridylyltransferase deficiency is associated with symptoms ofhepatosplenomegaly and mental retardation in addition to the cataracts caused by galactitol buildup.View Complete details
